Backup & Sync
Keep your SN Utils settings, scripts, and snippets safe with cloud backups and sync across all your devices.
Cloud backup is a Pro feature that automatically saves your extension data to the cloud, letting you restore it on any device.
What Gets Backed Up
| Data Type | Description |
|---|---|
| Settings | Theme, font size, keyboard shortcuts, UI preferences |
| Scripts | Custom background scripts and automation |
| Snippets | Your saved code templates and GlideRecord helpers |
| Instance Configs | Per-instance customizations |
Backup Types
You can create different types of backups depending on your needs:
- Full Backup — Everything: settings, scripts, snippets, and configs
- Settings Only — Just your preferences and UI customizations
- Scripts Only — Your custom automation scripts
- Snippets Only — Your saved code templates

Storage Limits
Your Pro subscription includes:
| Limit | Amount |
|---|---|
| Max backup size | 5 MB per backup |
| Total storage | 50 MB |
| Max backups | 20 |
Most users never hit these limits. A typical full backup is only 2-10 KB.
Sync Across Devices
Backups enable seamless device switching:
- Work Computer — Make changes, they're backed up
- Home Computer — Restore latest backup, same setup
- New Laptop — Activate extension, restore backup, ready to go
Best Practices
Regular Backups
- Create a backup before making major changes
- Name backups descriptively: "Before dark theme switch"
- Keep 2-3 recent full backups
Organizing Backups
- Use the backup name field to identify versions
- Delete old backups you won't need
- Use type-specific backups for partial restores
Troubleshooting
Backup Failed
If backup creation fails:
- Check your internet connection
- Verify your license is active
- Check if you've hit storage limits
- Try a smaller backup (e.g., settings only)
Restore Not Working
If settings don't apply after restore:
- Refresh all open ServiceNow pages
- Check the extension popup for errors
- Try restoring again
- Contact support if issues persist
"Storage Quota Exceeded"
You've hit the 50 MB total limit:
- Go to your backup list
- Delete old or unnecessary backups
- Try creating your backup again
Privacy & Security
- Encrypted storage — Backups are stored securely in the cloud
- Your data only — Only you can access your backups
- No sensitive data — Backups contain settings, not passwords or tokens
- Delete anytime — Remove any backup permanently
