Extension Connection

Learn how to connect and manage the SN Utils browser extension with your account.

The SN Utils browser extension connects to your account through a secure activation token system.

How It Works

The extension connection uses a two-token system for security:

  1. Activation Token - A short-lived token (5 minutes) generated from the dashboard
  2. Extension Token - A long-lived token stored in the extension after successful activation

This approach ensures:

  • Tokens can't be intercepted and reused
  • Each device is uniquely identified
  • Access can be revoked per-device

Connecting Your Extension

Step 1: Install the Extension

Download SN Utils from the Chrome Web Store.

Step 2: Generate an Activation Token

  1. Go to your Dashboard
  2. Find the "Activate SN Utils" card
  3. Click "Generate Token"
  4. Copy the generated token

Step 3: Activate in the Extension

  1. Open the SN Utils extension on any ServiceNow instance
  2. Navigate to Settings → License
  3. Paste your activation token
  4. Click Activate

The extension will validate the token and establish a secure connection to your account.

Managing Connected Devices

From your dashboard, you can view and manage all connected devices.

View Connected Devices

The "Active Devices" section shows all devices linked to your account:

Rename a Device

Give devices friendly names for easy identification:

  1. Click the edit icon (✏️) next to the device name
  2. Enter a descriptive name (e.g., "Work Laptop - Chrome")
  3. Press Enter or click the checkmark

Revoke Single Device

To disconnect a specific device:

  1. Find the device in the list
  2. Click the trash icon (🗑️)
  3. The device is immediately deactivated

The extension on that device will sign out and require a new activation token.

Deactivate All Devices

To sign out everywhere at once:

  1. Click Deactivate All in the devices header
  2. Confirm in the dialog
  3. All devices are immediately signed out

Use this if you suspect unauthorized access or are switching accounts.

Device Limits

Your Pro subscription allows unlimited devices per user. To prevent abuse, new device activations are rate-limited:

  • 5 new activations per hour per user
  • Existing devices don't count against this limit
  • Rate limit resets after one hour

If you see "Too many activations", wait an hour before adding new devices.

Troubleshooting

Token Expired

Activation tokens expire after 5 minutes. If your token has expired:

  1. Return to the dashboard
  2. Generate a new token
  3. Try again

Already Activated

If the extension shows it's already activated but you want to switch accounts:

  1. Open the extension settings
  2. Click "Sign Out" or "Deactivate"
  3. Generate a new token from the desired account
  4. Re-activate

Connection Issues

If the extension can't connect:

  1. Check your internet connection
  2. Ensure you have an active subscription
  3. Try generating a new token
  4. Contact support if issues persist

Security

  • Never share your activation token — It grants access to your account
  • Revoke unused devices — Keep your device list clean
  • Monitor device activity — Check "last seen" timestamps regularly
