SN Utils Does Not Run
Fix the 'SN Utils does not run on the current page' message by switching to the OnPrem version.
Last updated: February 18, 2026
If you see this message:
SN Utils does not run on the current page!
you are using the standard SN Utils extension on a domain outside *.service-now.com. The fix is to switch to SN Utils OnPrem.
If you want to quickly verify which version matches your browser and domain setup, use the install page.
Why This Happens
The standard extension only runs on *.service-now.com domains. If your instance uses a custom domain (for example sn.acme.com), a local IP address, or localhost, the standard version won't activate.
Fix: Switch to SN Utils OnPrem
We recommend uninstalling the standard version and replacing it with OnPrem. Running both at the same time can cause conflicts and unexpected behavior.
- Uninstall the standard SN Utils extension from your browser
- Install SN Utils OnPrem from the install page:
- Reload your ServiceNow instance — the extension should now load correctly
The OnPrem version works on all domains, including *.service-now.com, so you don't lose anything by switching.
Running Both Versions at Once
Having both the standard and OnPrem extensions enabled on the same page makes them conflict. They each inject into the page and overwrite each other, so features fire only intermittently — technical names need several attempts to appear, slash commands sometimes do nothing, and you may even see an "OnPrem" settings panel open on a regular cloud instance.
To fix it, keep just one:
- Recommended — remove or disable the standard version. OnPrem also runs on
*.service-now.com, so it covers every instance on its own. - Or scope each one. If you'd rather keep both, restrict where the OnPrem version runs via your browser's per-extension site access settings so the two never load on the same page. Some users keep the standard build for
*.service-now.combecause it tends to receive published fixes about a day earlier.
To open the settings page in Chrome, right-click the extension icon and choose Manage Extension:
Then set Site access so the OnPrem version only runs on the domains you want:
Browser Availability
| Browser | OnPrem Available |
|---|---|
| Chrome / Chromium | Yes |
| Firefox | Yes |
| Edge | Yes |
| Safari | No |
Safari does not have an OnPrem version. For custom domain instances, use Chrome, Edge, or Firefox instead.
Need a direct download path for your browser? Open the install page and choose the recommended extension variant.
Still Not Working?
If you still have issues after switching to OnPrem:
- Make sure you fully removed the standard version (not just disabled)
- Restart your browser after installing OnPrem
- Check that OnPrem is enabled for your instance URL in the browser's extension settings
