Settings Reference
Find SN Utils settings by their current label, understand what they change, and turn off individual features when they overlap with another tool.
Last updated: October 16, 2026
Open Manage with /manage or the gear icon in the extension popup. Use the settings search to find a label below. Reload open ServiceNow tabs after changing settings so their existing event handlers use your new preferences.
When another extension, custom solution, or ServiceNow feature performs the same action, turn off the overlapping SN Utils feature if you want the other solution to handle it. For example, turn off Screenshot Paste when a custom image-paste solution already uploads the clipboard image. You do not need to disable the whole extension.
Settings: Admin Enhancements
| Setting | What it changes |
|---|---|
| Header Pickers | Show the Application and Update Set pickers in the header. Turn off to remove the SN Utils pickers globally. To hide or restore them on just one instance, use /hpt. |
| Highlight Default | Highlight the default update set in the header picker. Turn off if you do not want that visual warning. |
| InstanceTag | Show the draggable instance indicator. Individual instances can also have their own tag settings. |
| InstanceTag Clock | Show the instance timezone clock on the tag. Turn off to hide the clock; the tag can remain visible. |
See Favicon & InstanceTag for per-instance controls and Other UIs for header pickers.
Settings: Developer Tooling
| Setting | What it changes |
|---|---|
| VS Code Integration | Add ScriptSync buttons to script fields. Turn off to remove those integration buttons. |
| Better BG Script | Enhance the Background Script editor. Turn off to use the instance's editor without these SN Utils enhancements. |
| Monaco Editor | Add Code Editor buttons beside script fields to open the full-screen Monaco editor. Turn off to remove the buttons. |
| Technical Names | Show technical names automatically when a page loads. Turning this off does not remove the manual /tn command. |
| Table/Form Quick-access Pill (Pro) | Show the compact table-actions pill in classic form and list headers. Turn off to hide it independently of Technical Names. |
| Double-click Toggle | Double-click whitespace to toggle technical names. Turn off if that gesture conflicts with your workflow. |
| Snippet Shortcut (Pro) | Open snippet quick search with double Shift. Turn off to stop intercepting that gesture. |
| Script Recovery | Keep a local recovery copy of scripts to help recover from a session timeout. Turn off to stop this automatic recovery feature. |
| Favicon Badge | Allow the instance badge overlay on browser-tab favicons. Turn off to hide SN Utils favicon overlays globally. |
See Technical Names, Using Snippets, and Script Recovery for the workflows these settings control.
Settings: Quick Ring & Middle-click (Pro)
| Setting | What it changes |
|---|---|
| Middle-click Action | Enable the middle-click command on supported non-interactive page areas. Off by default. Leave off for normal browser middle-click handling. |
| Middle-click Command | Choose the slash command to run. An empty command leaves middle-click native even when Middle-click Action is on. |
| Quick Ring | Enable the ring of commands at the cursor. Turn off to disable its mouse triggers. |
| Hold delay | Set the long-press delay from 0 to 1500 ms; the default is 600 ms. Set 0 to disable long-press and use a configured modifier shortcut instead. |
| Shortcut | Open the ring immediately with Shift, Ctrl, Alt, or Cmd/Win plus click. Choose None to disable this shortcut. |
| Slots: Form / List | Configure the ring's commands when the current page has table context. |
| Slots: Other | Configure a separate ring for pages without table context. |
See Quick Ring & Middle-click for supported targets, slots, and Quick View.
Settings: Slash Commands
| Setting | What it changes |
|---|---|
| Prioritize Shortcut | Give SN Utils priority over ServiceNow's built-in Ctrl-/ shortcut. Turn off if you want ServiceNow to handle that conflicting shortcut. |
| Activation | Choose On / or CTRL-/, CTRL-/ only, or Off. Use CTRL-/ only to stop a bare slash opening the palette. To disable the built-in activation keys, choose Off and also turn off Prioritize Shortcut. Custom bindings are independent. |
| Custom Open Shortcut | Record an additional shortcut to open the slash popup. Include a modifier such as Ctrl, Alt, Shift, or Cmd. Clear it to remove the custom binding. |
| Repeat Last Command | Record a shortcut to run the last slash command again. Clear it to remove the binding. |
| Navigator Search | Include application navigator results in slash commands. Turn off to omit that integration. |
| History Size | Remember 20, 50, 100, or 200 recent commands, or choose Disabled. The default is 50. |
To stop a custom open or repeat shortcut as well, clear its binding.
The separate Shortcuts tab configures custom command bindings, including each binding's enabled state and inline-search behavior. See Keyboard Shortcuts. Slash-command activation itself does not require Pro.
Settings: Sidekick
| Setting | What it changes |
|---|---|
| Window mode | Choose Popup (default), Popup, or Always on top. Popup opens a regular window; Always on top uses Picture-in-Picture where supported. |
| Sidekick AI | Enable the opt-in assistant. It sends page metadata to SN Utils servers. Leave off if you do not want to use Sidekick AI. |
See Sidekick and Sidekick AI for browser support and data handling.
Settings: Enduser Preferences
| Setting | What it changes |
|---|---|
| Save Shortcut | Handle Ctrl/Cmd-S to save and Ctrl/Cmd-Shift-S to insert and stay. Turn off to stop SN Utils handling those form shortcuts. |
| Tab Markers (Pro) | Mark the previous tab, the last three tabs, or the last five tabs with numbered labels. Choose Off to stop marking tabs. |
| Reduce Motion | Minimize SN Utils animations and effects. The operating system's reduced-motion preference is also respected. |
| Disable Form Autofocus | Stop ServiceNow's initial automatic field focus. Turn off to leave that initial focus behavior alone. |
| Screenshot Paste | Paste clipboard images as attachments. On by default. Turn off if a custom solution or ServiceNow's native handling already uploads pasted images, then reload the ServiceNow tab. This prevents SN Utils from also uploading the image. |
| Screenshot Confirm Delay | Set the preview countdown before upload, from 0 to 6 seconds in 0.5-second steps. The default is 3 seconds. Set 0 for immediate upload. This does not disable Screenshot Paste. |
| Silent Screenshot Upload | Hide the upload pill and attach images in the background, showing only failures. Overrides the confirm countdown. Turn off to restore the visible preview; turn off Screenshot Paste to stop uploads entirely. |
| Max Paste File Size | Block pasted screenshots and files above the selected size in MB. Set 0 for no size limit. |
| Clean UI | Suppress added SN Utils UI elements. Leave off when you want the normal form and list enhancements. |
| Allow New Tab | Allow SN Utils to open a tab for important news or updates after an extension update. Turn off to prevent those automatic news tabs. |
| Privacy Mode | Mask your email address in SN Utils for screen sharing and demos. This does not anonymize the ServiceNow page. |
See Forms for screenshot paste, file paste, and form shortcuts. Screenshot pasting is free; pasting files copied from Finder or Explorer requires Pro.
Advanced: Editor & List Configuration
Open Manage → Advanced → Editor & List Configuration.
| Setting | What it changes |
|---|---|
| Monaco Editor Options | Supply JSON options for the Monaco editor, such as word wrapping and the context menu. |
| Default List Fields | Choose the comma-separated fields added by the Quick Add Fields action. |
| List Navigation URL Parameters | Add URL parameters when SN Utils opens a list by table name. The default pins the filter. Clear the field to omit those extra parameters. |
| Sort Lists by Last Updated | Sort lists opened from slash commands by most recently updated first. Turn off to keep the list's own sort; -ou remains available per command. |
| Table-Specific List Fields (Pro) | Add fields for individual tables on top of Default List Fields. Dot-walked fields are supported. Use the table rows or JSON view; remove a table's entry to stop adding its extra fields. |
See Lists and Slash Commands for list navigation.
Backup & Sync
| Setting | What it changes |
|---|---|
| Sync Resources | Sync snippets, commands, and switches across devices through your account. Turn off to stop automatic resource sync. |
| Usage Data | Choose Collect & Share, Collect Only, or Off. Off offers a choice to retain or delete existing local usage data. |
| Auto-Backup | Automatically back up extension settings to your account. Turn off to stop automatic settings backups. |
These are independent controls. They do not disable licensing traffic or every connected feature. See Backup & Sync, Usage Data, and Data flows & privacy controls.
Instance, Theme, and Popup Settings
Some settings belong to a specific tool rather than the main Settings tab:
- Instances / InstanceTag settings: instance tag visibility, text, font size, opacity, background and text colors; double-click and button commands; clock visibility and timezone. Favicon controls set badge text, background and text colors, width, height, and font size. See Favicon & InstanceTag.
- Themes: palette, application scope, system appearance, custom-theme name and base mode, five main colors and optional derived colors, per-instance theme assignments, and whether to sync theme selections. See Themes.
- Attachment Preview: control the floating launcher and the per-instance encryption choice for pasted attachments. See Forms.
- Extension popup: the Nodes tab's database icon toggles database details. The Whitelist tab controls which instance URLs are allowed. See Popup Window.
- Commands, switches, snippets, and automations: their editors configure individual resources, rather than global extension preferences. See Custom Commands, Switches, Snippets, and Command Automations.
